Many breastfeeding families find themselves in need of lactation help and would benefit from the lactation support services of a board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC). Nurture Normally’s lactation consultants are board certified and registered professional members of your healthcare team with a specialty in evidence-based normal breastfeeding and high-risk lactation; it is within their scope of practice to support you during any phase of your breastfeeding experience.
Services are available throughout the greater Spokane, Spokane Valley, and Coeur d’Alene areas in your home.
Prenatal
Prenatally, your lactation consultant works with you to prepare you for breastfeeding. They’ll meet with you one-on-one to discuss what breastfeeding can look like for your family and how to achieve your breastfeeding goals. They’ll assess any barriers or booby traps that might hinder your success and help you develop a plan for navigating them.
We also offer several prenatal breastfeeding and parenting classes, too, such as Nurtured Beginnings: Preparing to Feed Your Baby, Preparing to Work and Breastfeeding, and Introducing Solids.
Postpartum
After the birth of your baby, your lactation consultant helps get breastfeeding started. In order to help you get set up within your own environment and to decrease your running-around-town time while your body heals from birth, your lactation consultant will come to your home in Spokane, Spokane Valley, Coeur d’Alene or surrounding areas (travel fee may apply if outside this area).
Should difficulties arise, your lactation consultant will work with you to determine the root cause of your breastfeeding difficulties, while developing a plan to protect your milk supply and nourish your baby, helping you to reach your breastfeeding goals.
Paying for Feeding Consults with Our Lactation Consultants
Some insurance companies may cover lactation consultations provided in-home and we do bill some insurance companies directly. Most health care spending accounts (HSA) or flexible spending accounts (FSA) cover lactation care, as well; depending on the account, payment may be made directly from the account via debit card without needing to request reimbursement. Otherwise, all services are fee-for-service and payment is expected at the time of service. We accept cash, check, or card and you will receive a superbill that you can use to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.
